Tactile Playgrounds

WEEK 12

IT'S OPEN STUDIO

The dean provided feedback for further explorations. She recommended experimenting with additional materials and objects, perhaps something different from what I already have. We also discussed the intended use and display of these tactile playgrounds. I mentioned that it would be a toolkit designed for children and parents to engage with together. The dean suggested that it could also have applications in therapy and for children with delayed cognitive development, meaning not exclusively for only VI children.

Notes from Open Studio

Also, after observing how people interact with my prototype, I can see that the users are confused by where on the objects they should touch. Some will touch anywhere on the object and expect the sensory cue to work. Others will only touch the balls, while others touch the textured part. This is something that I should take into consideration when improving my prototype.

What to do after Open Studio:

  • 1.

    Video

  • 2.

Try to make objects with different material

  • 3.

    Make the board work better

  • 4.

Find a better way to give instructions

During this week's class, each of us presented our current process.

WEEKLY ROUNDUP

What a good week it has been! My project received a lot of positive feedback during the Open Studio. It made me very happy, considering the amount of time I have dedicated researching, articulating, and making this project so far. Moving forward, the next step is to strengthen the project’s objectives and find ways to better visualise how the tool works.
